John Digweed on the State of EDM

How will you ever educate the crowd if you just spoon-feed them what they want with the same records week after week, night after night? I think it’s a bit of a shame that people don’t want to be surprised musically when they go out, just wanting to hear what you already know and hear […]

X-Factor for DJs: Why This (might) Be A Good Thing

February 3rd, 2012

Simon Cowell, the creator of X-Factor and American Idol says:
“DJs are the new Rockstars.”
Ignoring the fact that this line is taken from a very popular movement in underground DJ culture and has been around since at least the 1980’s Simon probably said this line because its true. He has noticed and has hinted at plans […]

Finally - what we have not been waiting for: Cat Scratch! : A turntable for cats. I think I’ll stick with this one.

30 Years of Music

August 17th, 2011

A great visual representation of the future of music. After a decade of CD sales growth, guess what medium is on the rise and poised to be the dominant medium in the 2000’s and beyond?
If you guessed digital download / MP3 I would have to disagree. Subscription and cloud services are going to be the […]

The Kardashian mentions how much attention is paid, not how much attention is deserved, so naming the unit after someone who is famous for being famous seems appropriate.

Brilliant. Ethan Zuckerman proposes measuring attention with a unit of measure called a Kardashian.

Excellent post about how Twitter in the end will be the big winner rather than Facebook.

Slow and steady always wins the race. Always. Its what I believe in when it comes to FRISKY and in everything else I try to do.

Watch the trailer for JJ Abrams’ new TV show Revolution. Looks good but then so did Alcatraz, which turned out to be a dud. Lets hope this lives up to the hype.

RIP so-called Social Readers. The Facebook Social Reader is the worst piece of crap ever. You click on an article your friend supposedly read and instead of taking you to the story, it takes you to an app. Thats when I closed the app and never went to the story. I wasnt the only one.

Fascinating story of American Airlines’ AAirPass - an all-you-can-fly elite program that you can purchase for $350,000. Considering how much you can travel (unlimited, first class), I think $350K is a great deal if you have the money. And time I guess.

The San Pelligrino 50 Best Restaurants in the World list is better than the Michelin list, and their 2012 ratings are right on. Per Se at 6 and not surprisingly Eleven Madison Park jumps from 24 to 10! It is that good. I expect it to be in the Top 5 next year for sure. Another one to watch out for next year: Atera in New York.
