Why exercise is a waste of time

Time magazine has a real eye-opener of an article that explains why the human body in general is not made to respond to exercise.

If you’re hot and thirsty after a 20-minute run in summer heat, it’s easy to guzzle that bottle in 20 seconds, in which case the caloric expenditure and the caloric intake are probably a wash. From a weight-loss perspective, you would have been better off sitting on the sofa knitting.

In the end, it all comes down to simple math. If you burn more calories than you consume - you will loose weight.

thats stupid… maybe if you’re drinking coke or something, but drink some good old water after the run (which is what you should be drinking after exercise anyway) and caloric intake is 0, thus rendering the ‘truth’ that quote is intending to make false. Even if you did drink the coke, its arguable whether it really is pointless as there’s many more benefits from doing exercise then just weight loss.

doing exercise is always better then not doing exercise, and I don’t think anyone would argue against that.

Yup. Well said. This article I think is geared towards stupid fat americans - the ones that go to McDonalds and order a big mac with large fries and a DIET coke.

Ive maintained my weight thru simple math over the years. I just make sure that I eat a balanced diet and indulge in moderation. I dont even drink coke or sugery “sports” drinks. And of course I hit the gym 4 times a week at least. But they do raise a couple of interesting points in that article.

I added 15 kilos in 2 years (from 75 to 90 kg, sorry for the metrics). I was a sportsman all my life and always ate very much (until today). I always loved good life and good food, and I always eat for two. :-) I never gained one gram of weight until …

There comes an age when metabolism doesn’t work the way it always did. This is what happened. Game over. :-D

I might just have to subscribe to Vanity Fair. They have been on a roll lately. Now they bring us an amazing insight into the man behind Napster and Facebook (and who is also played by Justin Timberlake in The Social Network): Sean Parker.

He has financed the businesses of numerous cohorts, merely out of affection. “He’s one of the most generous people I know,” says another associate. “Also one of the flakiest.”

First person account from a 9/11 victim of how the term has been hijacked by bigots.

My husband, Eddie Torres, killed on his second day of work at Cantor Fitzgerald while I was pregnant with our first child, was a dark-skinned Latino, often mistaken for Pakistani, who came here illegally from Colombia. How did “9/11 victim” become sloppy shorthand for “white Christian”?

    - Stephen Hawking. I couldn’t agree more. Can the US get the fuck over themselves and stop crying about every fucking year now? Where’s the day of remembrance for 100,000 Iraqis killed from the illegal war?

Vanity Fair is on a roll. After the scathing article on Sarah Palin, here comes another amazing must-read: A Day in Life of Obama on how he spends a typical day. And I thought I was busy.

An Israeli army officer who fired the entire magazine of his automatic rifle into a 13-year-old Palestinian girl and then said he would have done the same even if she had been three years old was acquitted on all charges by a military court yesterday.

What would make the Israeli Terrorist say such a thing? Because they are not human but are the scum of the Earth.

If you want to know what a joke and utter piece of shit Sarah Palin really is, you need to read Vanity Fair’s devastating profile of the woman. An amazing insight into the mind of Palin.

Once, while Sarah was preparing for a city-council meeting, she said, ‘I’m gonna put on one of my push-up bras so I can get what I want tonight.’ That’s how she rolls.”

Gmail is rolling out “Priority Inbox” a Facebook-like feature that predicts what emails are most important to you.

As messages come in, Gmail automatically flags some of them as important. Gmail uses a variety of signals to predict which messages are important, including the people you email most (if you email Bob a lot, a message from Bob is probably important) and which messages you open and reply to (these are likely more important than the ones you skip over).

I dont like Facebook telling me who my friends are, and Im not sure I like Gmail telling me what email is more important. I will just have to see how it works once I start seeing the Priority Inbox feature on my Gmail account.
