Why exercise is a waste of time

Time magazine has a real eye-opener of an article that explains why the human body in general is not made to respond to exercise.

If you’re hot and thirsty after a 20-minute run in summer heat, it’s easy to guzzle that bottle in 20 seconds, in which case the caloric expenditure and the caloric intake are probably a wash. From a weight-loss perspective, you would have been better off sitting on the sofa knitting.

In the end, it all comes down to simple math. If you burn more calories than you consume - you will loose weight.

thats stupid… maybe if you’re drinking coke or something, but drink some good old water after the run (which is what you should be drinking after exercise anyway) and caloric intake is 0, thus rendering the ‘truth’ that quote is intending to make false. Even if you did drink the coke, its arguable whether it really is pointless as there’s many more benefits from doing exercise then just weight loss.

doing exercise is always better then not doing exercise, and I don’t think anyone would argue against that.

Yup. Well said. This article I think is geared towards stupid fat americans - the ones that go to McDonalds and order a big mac with large fries and a DIET coke.

Ive maintained my weight thru simple math over the years. I just make sure that I eat a balanced diet and indulge in moderation. I dont even drink coke or sugery “sports” drinks. And of course I hit the gym 4 times a week at least. But they do raise a couple of interesting points in that article.

I added 15 kilos in 2 years (from 75 to 90 kg, sorry for the metrics). I was a sportsman all my life and always ate very much (until today). I always loved good life and good food, and I always eat for two. :-) I never gained one gram of weight until …

There comes an age when metabolism doesn’t work the way it always did. This is what happened. Game over. :-D

Excellent post about how Twitter in the end will be the big winner rather than Facebook.

Slow and steady always wins the race. Always. Its what I believe in when it comes to FRISKY and in everything else I try to do.

Watch the trailer for JJ Abrams’ new TV show Revolution. Looks good but then so did Alcatraz, which turned out to be a dud. Lets hope this lives up to the hype.

RIP so-called Social Readers. The Facebook Social Reader is the worst piece of crap ever. You click on an article your friend supposedly read and instead of taking you to the story, it takes you to an app. Thats when I closed the app and never went to the story. I wasnt the only one.

Fascinating story of American Airlines’ AAirPass - an all-you-can-fly elite program that you can purchase for $350,000. Considering how much you can travel (unlimited, first class), I think $350K is a great deal if you have the money. And time I guess.

The San Pelligrino 50 Best Restaurants in the World list is better than the Michelin list, and their 2012 ratings are right on. Per Se at 6 and not surprisingly Eleven Madison Park jumps from 24 to 10! It is that good. I expect it to be in the Top 5 next year for sure. Another one to watch out for next year: Atera in New York.

Couldnt agree with this more… Apple should buy Foursquare and Square:

To summarize: after the deal, Apple will immediately become a giant payments company, with an installation base that is expected to encompass half of all mobile devices sold. The company will have the best local search abilities, far exceeding any existing recommendation engine. And due to its enormous reach, it will possess a payment system that merchants will line up to support.
