Why I will not watch the 2008 Olympic Games

March 19th, 2008

I was appalled when the Olympics were awarded to an oppressive country like China and their actions in the past week of quelling the Tibet peace and independence movement by force, in which over a hundred people have died, have further angered people all over the world.

But of course China is a huge economic partner of the US so it looks the other way - the coward that Bush and his administration is. In fact, China actually owns the US economy as more than half of everything that the US spends is actually borrowed from China. So who’s the real Daddy?

But I digress… I have always had the utmost respect for the Dalai Lama and I support the Tibetan movement. Therefore I will be boycotting this year’s Olympics and will not watch a single second nor care.

Take action against China’s aggression on Tibet now!

“But of course China is a huge economic partner ” that`s the point why the media will not stop the live TV coverage

Have you lived in China? if the answer is no, the SHUT THE F*CK UP.

I’m so sick of people who base everything they know off CNN that think they know everything about China. The reality of the situation is tibet is a part of china, whether rightfully or not, China controls it, and if their people want to rise up against the government, then it is an internal problem.

Furthermore to say that the U.S. is looking the other way because China is a huge economic partner is the most ignorant and retarded thing i have ever heard. The U.S.’s relationship with China is sh*t, why you think we pay twice as much for our visa’s than the Europeans? China and the U.S. are not friends. And the Chinese owning the U.S.? What are you smoking? While economic ties with China are no doubt beneficial, the U.S. doesn’t need China. Chinese people can’t even get freakin visas to the United States, maybe you are confusing Chinese people with Taiwanese or HKese who immigrated to north america before the handoever.

Chinese companies that are investing into the U.S. economy have all sorts of problems, particularly with anti-monopoly laws, copyright infringement, as well as quality control problems. Actually the general consensus is the U.S. is AGAINST Chinese investment and Chinese products, while it is certainly a large part of the U.S. economy to say the U.S. is controlled by China is retarded.

Finally, what the hell does Tibet have to do with the Olympics? Honestly, i sympathize with the tibetans plight, but IT’S NOT THE U.S.’s PROBLEM, what do you expect us to do? bomb China? great then we will have WWIII, and there will be NO OLYMPICS.

Boycott the olympics if you want, but don’t be that ignorant American that gives us Americans living here in China a bad name.

Ok, just wanted to say, above post was made out of being annoyed as people making snarky comments about China is a personal pet peeve of mine. I stand by my words, but my harsh language and attacking in hindsight was really not necessary, for which I apologize.

I just want to make clear that my opinions are mine alone and don’t reflect the opinions of everyone living in China, whether foreign or Chinese.

The point i was trying to make is that the situation in Tibet is a Chinese matter and the way the Chinese deal with it should really be left up to them, and should not influence the olympics in any way, because i feel they are completely unrelated topics.

Patrick: Im not American mate. So no, Im no ‘ignorant American.’ Although I do know all about what you mean by ignorant Americans…

If you have read some of my earlier posts rather than gaging my knowledge on just this one post - you will find out that Im actually in favour is China being the next super-power (which it will become soon) as the world needs someone to balance out the power that the US has at the moment.

However, you are underestimating the power China has over the US when it comes to its economy. Like the Saudis, China has a lot of influence directly and indirectly on the US economy. I wont insult your intelligence my telling you to read articles on this subject as Im sure you can yourself and then you will know just how much the US “needs” China. The US dollar itself is hanging on by a thread, and if China pulled all its US dollar investments in the US, the Dollar will simply collapse. We’re already seeing that to some extent with the dollar falling ever single day, as the trade shifts into negative territory from the US.

Getting visas to a country has nothing to with being friends with them or not, or being a huge trade partner or not. Youre talking about a State Department issue - Im talking about the economic issue. And we all know that when it comes to MONEY matters, Economic matters trump State matters every single time. Gotta love capitalism. Thats why the US goes into Iraq to “save people from a dictator” and looks the other way in Sudan, Pakistan, Burma, Rowanda… etc etc etc…

So your point is totally irrelevant and, to use your own words, retarded. :-)

I stand by my statements as Im sure you do yours… But I know Im right. :P

    Cheers

    hello hello…

…I have been living in China and I am not American.. can I state my opinion? hehe…

Patrick, your argument miss one point.. this is not an internal matter, but rather an international one.
When Germany annexed Austria, was it an internal matter?

…and anyway, I will NOT watch the olympic games!

…my two cents.. take care, you all… now, let’s go eating some wanton noodles… ;)

I don’t care about all written above. I do care about human (and animal, btw) rights, and there is no excuse for violating them. Basta.

RIP so-called Social Readers. The Facebook Social Reader is the worst piece of crap ever. You click on an article your friend supposedly read and instead of taking you to the story, it takes you to an app. Thats when I closed the app and never went to the story. I wasnt the only one.

Fascinating story of American Airlines’ AAirPass - an all-you-can-fly elite program that you can purchase for $350,000. Considering how much you can travel (unlimited, first class), I think $350K is a great deal if you have the money. And time I guess.

The San Pelligrino 50 Best Restaurants in the World list is better than the Michelin list, and their 2012 ratings are right on. Per Se at 6 and not surprisingly Eleven Madison Park jumps from 24 to 10! It is that good. I expect it to be in the Top 5 next year for sure. Another one to watch out for next year: Atera in New York.

Couldnt agree with this more… Apple should buy Foursquare and Square:

To summarize: after the deal, Apple will immediately become a giant payments company, with an installation base that is expected to encompass half of all mobile devices sold. The company will have the best local search abilities, far exceeding any existing recommendation engine. And due to its enormous reach, it will possess a payment system that merchants will line up to support.

Perfectly boring still life objects made incredibly NSFW. Quite awesome how at first you see the shots, you dont see anything but erotica. But then when you realise what it is, you have to try and see anything but the every-day object.
