Kiva :: Finally a Way to Help the Poor

February 2nd, 2008

Over the years Ive been increasingly frustrated about wanting to do something, anything that had a direct profound affect on the world’s poor. The biggest threat to World Peace and the general well-being of the human race is poverty. Hunger alone kills dozens and dozens of people every minute.

I’ve always wanted to help out in some way and I continue to donate money to my favourite charities like UNICEF, UNHCR, Amnesty International, One. I havent told anyone this but I came so close to taking 4 weeks off last year and donating my time to the UN, for them to send me anywhere they needed doners that might need my help. But according to the UN site, they only accept people to donate about 4 month’s of their time for field locations. Hopefully one day, I will take a few months off from the rat race and donate my time for the good of my fellow human beings.

In the mean time I have Kiva.org, and Im very excited to share it here. Kiva is an amazing site, where I can make a direct loan to someone in the developing world to help them get on their feet to start their own business and support their family. The loan is almost nothing - as small as $25 - to about $200, which translates to huge amounts in countries like Bangladesh, Ghana, or Pakistan. Such a small donation goes a long way in feeding a family of four or more. I mean I spend $25 in a few days on cappuccinos! So now, I dont think anyone has an excuse and say that they want to help, but can not.

Eradicating Poverty, not dropping bombs, is the only way to beat global terrorism. To give hope to people that have none, to let them know that people care and that we are all one - that is the way to move forward and live in peace. Because if people have hope and dignity, why would they follow the idealogical bullshit lies from radical religious fucks that use that hopelessness to create the next-gen terrorists. Its up to us to restore balance in the world.

That is awesome you found out about Kiva. My brother has given loans through them for a couple years now. Like you said there is no justification for not helping. It is really so little in the big picture of our lives. I have yet to do it with the reason that I am a poor ballet dancer but seriously, I spend 15 a month on stupid world of warcraft. Cheers

Today’s Weird News of the Day comes not from Japan as it usually does but from my friend Ingo’s country Germany. A convicted drug dealer escaped from jail this week. How did he do it? Here’s how:
Step 1. He bought a big box.
Step 2. He put himself into this box.
Step 3. He mailed the box with him inside the box to his home.
I say thats genius. Story here.

Theres a funny thing going on in India this week. Seems like the people are upset that Obama called Pakistan’s president but not India’s. And everyone is upset. Well, to the US at this moment in time, Pakistan is more important than India. Jesus fucking cry babies.

Want to work in the Obama Administration? Then you better be prepared to bare all your dark secrets. All applicants to senior cabinet-level posts are asked to fill out a 63-page questioner. Again - this is something that the Retards would never do. Link to the 63 questions [PDF]

This interview with Obama was taken in 2004. It dives into Obama’s religious convictions and beliefs, but of course also touches on some other points. A fascinating read on the President. His best answer is on Jesus:

Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man.

Which is of course true. As you all know, Im Agnostic - and believe that the Bible and Koran are not “holy books” written by God but by wise, intelligent men trying to make a difference. Im glad we finally have a president that doesnt ask God about what to do. Religion is history, not divinity.
