Steve Jobs admits that the EDGE network is not fast enough for the iPhone:

“You know every (AT&T) Blackberry gets its mail over EDGE. It turns out EDGE is great for mail, and it works well for maps and a whole bunch of other stuff. Where you wish you had faster speed is…on a Web browser. It’s good enough, but you wish it was a little faster.”

I think I will wait until the iPhone has 3G and is a bit cheaper before shelling out my hard-earned money for one. All those people waiting in line to get your hands on an overpriced and under-achieving device to them I say: get a life.
