Save Darfur Now!

December 18th, 2006

The subject of the genocide in Darfur is not new to me. Whats sad is that since I wrote that post back in April 2006 not much has changed in the world’s response (and indifference) to the genocide in Sudan.

President Bush and the UN - if you really want to do something and make a difference - solve this problem. Leave office with a legacy that actually means something. Stop the genocide NOW! We just might forgive you for Iraq…

No offense, I’d love to help out, but I think you are fighting a lost cause. In fact I don’t trust any donationfund anymore. What happened to the billion of dollars that was sent to Indonesia after the big tidalwaves??? remember 80000 death? And they still have to dig out bodies from the mud.

NO offense to darfur or your continuous support to that fund, there should be more people out there fighting for a good cause. The world has just changed too much that nobody gives a fuck if it doesn’t concern them or doesn’t hit them where it hurts…

Papi: Well, youre right in that the money is hardly ever distributed evenly and rarely gets to the intended target and those most in need of it. But thats not a reason for us to give up and be complacent. *All* of us can help in one way or another and it doesn’t just mean giving money. We can help by spreading awareness of the issue - telling people that might not otherwise know about whats happening. Writing to their political leaders urging them to DO SOMETHING. Its all about awareness and once people realize that this is happening, they simply will not be able to just sit there and sip their $3 lattes, knowing that there are other humans being slaughtered at that very moment …

This is just another example of how complacent we are. For many of those that wish to make a change, the fact that we all seem to know that our individual influence won’t make a difference stops us from making any real changes. Sure, it’s great to be an individual, but it is more important to be part of a cohesive force. When we work together, as I explained to my three year old nephew, you become just like the power rangers when they combine themselves into one huge power ranger(or something to that effect). You become bigger, stronger. You have the strength to inflict more damage than if you were fighting by yourself. We want so badly to be an individual that we forget that if we work together, we can make a stronger impact than a $20 dollar donation out your barely enough paycheck. How hard would it be for us to say that for even one hour (longer would be more effective), our entire country will sit whereever we may be and go on strike. Save Darfur. Pay attention to our cries!!! Can you give up the payment of one hour for your work in order to strike for Darfur? Maybe, if everyone else was doing it. But first we need to get the word out. We will go on strike for teachers rights, bus operators healthcare. We will fight for a senators right to a three day work week. I mean, all we have to do is get the word out, and we can go on strike for darfur. We have to power to bring this country to a stand still. But my idea won’t come to fruition. I am too complacent to make myself heard. As good as my intentions are, I have too much to worry about in my own life to make a difference. But please don’t judge me, because so are you.

Watch the trailer for JJ Abrams’ new TV show Revolution. Looks good but then so did Alcatraz, which turned out to be a dud. Lets hope this lives up to the hype.

RIP so-called Social Readers. The Facebook Social Reader is the worst piece of crap ever. You click on an article your friend supposedly read and instead of taking you to the story, it takes you to an app. Thats when I closed the app and never went to the story. I wasnt the only one.

Fascinating story of American Airlines’ AAirPass - an all-you-can-fly elite program that you can purchase for $350,000. Considering how much you can travel (unlimited, first class), I think $350K is a great deal if you have the money. And time I guess.

The San Pelligrino 50 Best Restaurants in the World list is better than the Michelin list, and their 2012 ratings are right on. Per Se at 6 and not surprisingly Eleven Madison Park jumps from 24 to 10! It is that good. I expect it to be in the Top 5 next year for sure. Another one to watch out for next year: Atera in New York.

Couldnt agree with this more… Apple should buy Foursquare and Square:

To summarize: after the deal, Apple will immediately become a giant payments company, with an installation base that is expected to encompass half of all mobile devices sold. The company will have the best local search abilities, far exceeding any existing recommendation engine. And due to its enormous reach, it will possess a payment system that merchants will line up to support.

Perfectly boring still life objects made incredibly NSFW. Quite awesome how at first you see the shots, you dont see anything but erotica. But then when you realise what it is, you have to try and see anything but the every-day object.
