Movie Triple Header

August 20th, 2006

As I’ve mentioned before, me and my friends have this tradition called Theater Skipping; wherein we go into a huge theater in the afternoon and spend the entire day watching movies. My record is 4 movies in a day - although legend has it that my friend Aamir, who is a Master Theater Skipper, has done 5. I can only dream of that. Here are reviews of the three movies I saw this weekend:

This is easily the funniest movie of the year. I wouldnt be surprised if its mentioned in some catergory come Oscar season next year. Steve Carell shows us his “serious” side with an amazing performance as a suicidal gay man thats forced to live with his sister.

Of course all hell breaks lose when they take a cross country trip together to a beauty pagent in California. Wicked funny! Not to be missed!

I must admit I was skeptical going into this movie. I thought it was going to be a bore like Nixon or full of conspiracy theories like JFK. But Oliver Stone dose justice to the memory thousands of innocent people that died that day and the countless people of the authorities that risked their life to save others. Due to the shear nature of the movie’s subject, I dont think there can ever be a “boring movie about Sept. 11.” And that fact is the only one that saves this movie, as the core subject of this movie, the story of two survivors, is rather bland and weak, Im afraid. Whats good about this movie is whats unseen - the towers are not shown being hit, nor are they shown falling down - but we all know what happened that day - and that memory alone is all thats needed for us to be moved.
Come on, altogether now: “I’ve had it with these mutherfuckin’ snakes on this motherfuckin plane!!!” I hate snakes. I really really really HATE snakes. But I had to see this movie because… well, unless you’ve been living under a rock or in a cave for the past few months, you know why. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this movie was the fact that it was so damn funny! It knew what it was, and didnt try to hide the fact that this movie was nothing more than a novelty brought about by rampant internet geeks. The entire movie is one crapshoot at itself after another - and thats what made this movie so damn enjoyable for me - regardless of all the snakes and all. Easily one of the most enjoyable movies of the year. Not the best, but most enjoyable! Whats next? Snakes on a Train? Bring it! I’ll be there!

Putin accuses Bush of provoking the Georgia conflict to help McCain. Although I dont agree with it Putin, its not without merit. Remember, the Republicans have nothing other than war and national security to run on, so they will scary the American people and make wars out of nothing, just to get the people to vote for them. Thats why they won in 2004. And I can bet you come late October or so, Im sure there will be a “credible terrorist threat” or something of the like that hits America. All they know is to scare people.

The latest release from friskyRecords comes straight in at Number 1 in the ProgressiveHouse.com charts! Straight in at Number One baby! I feel especially good about this one because this was the first release on friskyRecords that I picked up, rather than commissioning DJs to make us a track for release. This track was 100% my choice that I heard and immedaitely knew I wanted to sign on friskyRecords. This proves that no matter what I should trust my gut. Thats what Ive always done with friskyRadio, and now its time to do the same with friskyRecords.

So Barack picked Joe Biden as his VP. Its nice to know that Obama listened to me when I spoke about Joe Biden way back in July 2007. I couldnt agree more with this pick, Barack. Its also nice to know that when I talk about politics, Im not merely speaking bullshit - I actually know what Im talking about. Like when I called out in 2002 that Saddam didnt have any WMD at all, but the reason why he would never admit to it was that in the Arab culture, admitting defeat is like saying youre not a man. So Saddam would rather let the world think he had WMD by merely remaining silent… I was right about that too.
