Miami :: Recap

March 29th, 2005

Im back to the cold and rainy weather. Im too tired to even write anything. First lets talk about the friskyRadio party. In short - since it was the first time I have ever done anything like this, I didnt know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised how well it went off. In fact, Id go far as to say that it was a huge success. The music was top notch. The vibe was classic frisky - friendly, non-pretentious, with a GREAT music. There was a crowd pretty much throughout the party and people absolutely loved the T-shirts I was handing out. They were so popular that I even sold a couple of them for $20 each! I didnt expect to sell any of them as I had intended to really give them away for free, this being our first event and all, and I was excited… I will order a new batch of shirts soon and have them available on the site when we relaunch the new look.

The day started with Andrew Chibale laying it down with some groovy house music to get things rolling. Burno stopped by for a short 1 hour set, then El Reyalto and Marc threw it down wicked tribal style! Their tag team with Jaimy was the most memorable part of the party for me… The deep and sexy beats he was laying down had me in awe!!! WOW! It was also kinda funny to see Steve Porter getting frisky with the tiger in the bar… Too funny!

Things just got better and better from there - and by 9pm (9 hours into the party) I was feeling a bit tired, having been up since 10am. But by that time, Scott Carrelli came on and I was completely awake again! Then Jondi and Spesh came on at midnight. I have to say, for world class DJs and producers that hang with the likes of John Digweed, Luke Fair and James Zabiela just to name a few, they are increbly humble and all round nice guys! I have met them many times before and they never have any sort of an attitude in them. Class act. They played an amazing set that happened to be longer than expected, as Spesh just wouldnt stop playing records becuase he was drunk! ;-) They played one promo after another and I hadnt heard half of the records they played. Amazing vibe! The night was recorded but halfway through Griff set, someone played with the levels and the recording got fucked up. I think Griff had a hard time with the mixer, which is unfortunate… Oh well, I will see what I can do to save the recording, because it would be a shame if the headliners of our party’s set got fucked up!!! It was also a shame Kevin Shiu couldnt get to spin, as he really wanted to. Next year I will make sure that he does, if he is still willing.

Another surprise for me was that the co-owner of a very big rival station (name starts with a P ;) ) was also at the party. There has been some bad blood between us in the past (probably due to miscommunication) but it was all good and nice chatting with him. Hopefully we can put all that shit behind us and maybe even work together to promote the music we all love and care about so much in the future. They way I see it, friskyRadio and that other station are the two only stations worth listening to on the Internet.

I came home and slept… for 16 hours. Im still hurting, but it was a great trip - both personally and professionally. I made some good new contacts that will benefit friskyRadio and will take it to the next level. I also learnt that, like any other business, this business is also very political, so you have to make contacts with the right people. But Im not out here to make any money - just put out some good music and have fun. The day this becomes too much and is not fun anymore - is the day I will stop doing friskyRadio. This was my first WMC, and it will definetely not be the last - even though everyone saud this year sucked: the weather was too hot and humid, too many canceled parties, and it coincided with Spring Break and thus the vibe was teriible. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. Will definetely go back next year for sure, and throw a bigger event. This year should be huge for friskyRadio!

For now though, I must say that I enjoyed Miami a lot! The people there are HOT! The vibe reminded me of Ibiza - beautiful people everywhere, sporting the trendist clothes and sexy tans… Damn I wish everyday was like a day in South Beach!

Banksy, since he is an anonymous artist, can not donate to a political party.

Putin accuses Bush of provoking the Georgia conflict to help McCain. Although I dont agree with it Putin, its not without merit. Remember, the Republicans have nothing other than war and national security to run on, so they will scary the American people and make wars out of nothing, just to get the people to vote for them. Thats why they won in 2004. And I can bet you come late October or so, Im sure there will be a “credible terrorist threat” or something of the like that hits America. All they know is to scare people.

Ubiquity looks incredibly hot. Its the first step in making the web for for you rather than you using the web to get tasks done.

The latest release from friskyRecords comes straight in at Number 1 in the ProgressiveHouse.com charts! Straight in at Number One baby! I feel especially good about this one because this was the first release on friskyRecords that I picked up, rather than commissioning DJs to make us a track for release. This track was 100% my choice that I heard and immedaitely knew I wanted to sign on friskyRecords. This proves that no matter what I should trust my gut. Thats what Ive always done with friskyRadio, and now its time to do the same with friskyRecords.
