2003 has been a shitty

December 29th, 2003

2003 has been a shitty year for me. I certainly will not miss 2003. Nevertheless, here’s the Top 10 events/things I found interesting that either happened to me, or around me in 2003:
10. Project from hell: Code named ‘Cosmo,’ Radio@AOL version 1.3 was a complete disaster! The project started in Dec 2002, and was simply to move Radio@AOL on narrowband off of Real Audio to Ultravox streams, like Radio@AOL on Broadband.
But the project grew into a massive cluster of related products, all that were suppposed to GM on the same day. With no one project and product manager looking over the project, it was an example how a project is not supposed to be run. Yuck.
09. So just where are those WMDs Bush promised us eh? No really, I want to know.
08. Naheed Afridi is a fucking criminal, and she *will* go to jail.
07. Tune of the year: Motorcycle (gabriel & Dresden) - “As the Rush Comes”. Honorable mentions: Andian - “Beautiful Things”, Sarah McLachlan - “Falling” (Gabriel & Dresden Remix). And of course: Kelis - “Milkshake” ;)
06. Movie of the Year: Lost in Translation.
05. Why did you do it Kenichi? May you rest in peace friend.
04. Bought a ticket to go to London in March 03. Couldnt go. Planned a trip to Ibiza in July. Couldnt go. Bought tickets to go to Europe for two weeks in October. Couldn’t go. Why? Fucking US visa expired! Thanks John Ashcroft. Youre a stellar guy!
03. Real friends are those you dont even have to think twice about where their loyalties lie.
02. “You guys are great! Radio@AOL is fuckin’ awesome, you guys are the future of the AOL service and Broadband experience. You’re all fired.”
01. Bleh.

Good riddance 2003!!!
You all have a Happy and safe New Years out there!!! This will be my last transmission in 2003. See you all in the 2K4!
PEACE!

I might just have to subscribe to Vanity Fair. They have been on a roll lately. Now they bring us an amazing insight into the man behind Napster and Facebook (and who is also played by Justin Timberlake in The Social Network): Sean Parker.

He has financed the businesses of numerous cohorts, merely out of affection. “He’s one of the most generous people I know,” says another associate. “Also one of the flakiest.”

First person account from a 9/11 victim of how the term has been hijacked by bigots.

My husband, Eddie Torres, killed on his second day of work at Cantor Fitzgerald while I was pregnant with our first child, was a dark-skinned Latino, often mistaken for Pakistani, who came here illegally from Colombia. How did “9/11 victim” become sloppy shorthand for “white Christian”?

“Although September 11 was horrible, it didn’t threaten the survival of the human race, like nuclear weapons do.”

    - Stephen Hawking. I couldn’t agree more. Can the US get the fuck over themselves and stop crying about every fucking year now? Where’s the day of remembrance for 100,000 Iraqis killed from the illegal war?

Vanity Fair is on a roll. After the scathing article on Sarah Palin, here comes another amazing must-read: A Day in Life of Obama on how he spends a typical day. And I thought I was busy.

An Israeli army officer who fired the entire magazine of his automatic rifle into a 13-year-old Palestinian girl and then said he would have done the same even if she had been three years old was acquitted on all charges by a military court yesterday.

What would make the Israeli Terrorist say such a thing? Because they are not human but are the scum of the Earth.

If you want to know what a joke and utter piece of shit Sarah Palin really is, you need to read Vanity Fair’s devastating profile of the woman. An amazing insight into the mind of Palin.

Once, while Sarah was preparing for a city-council meeting, she said, ‘I’m gonna put on one of my push-up bras so I can get what I want tonight.’ That’s how she rolls.”

Gmail is rolling out “Priority Inbox” a Facebook-like feature that predicts what emails are most important to you.

As messages come in, Gmail automatically flags some of them as important. Gmail uses a variety of signals to predict which messages are important, including the people you email most (if you email Bob a lot, a message from Bob is probably important) and which messages you open and reply to (these are likely more important than the ones you skip over).

I dont like Facebook telling me who my friends are, and Im not sure I like Gmail telling me what email is more important. I will just have to see how it works once I start seeing the Priority Inbox feature on my Gmail account.
